This is the post of liquid rage your momma warned you about.
About Super Junior M. D: I KNOW.
I've been nursing my rage for the better part of a month now, and yeah, I'm surprised I held out this long. The final drop in the bucket that was pretty fucking full already was undoubtedly the 'cute story' behind Henry's nickname. Which actually made me froth at the mouth a little.
And there may have been tears. Of. Fucking. Rage.
Need some backstory? The story goes that a fan saw Henry rushing out to bow to Kangin (and shouting the customary "thank you"). This made the fan make the leap of logic that Henry is awful at Korean and didn't actually know what the E.L.F. were yelling at him, since Henry apparently usually made it his point to bow to them and thank them as well. The Korean fans then decided to give him the nickname 'mochi' (otherwise known as dumplings).
If you don't know what the hell made me froth at the mouth. Here's a hint.
The worst thing I think, was that the one who reported the story was like, "Awww, that's so adorable." NEWSFLASH, that isn't adorable. It's fucking horrible, okay. I'm so glad somebody wisened him up on E.L.Fs cute little chants, because it seriously sickens me. And I seriously never want to be associated with the nickname 'mochi'. Ever.
(Which was actually just one of my general pet peeves about this fandom, which has now strengthened exponentially, so on the one hand, thanks for the heads-up, E.L.F.)
I find it pretty hilarious that for a country who decries their idols if they so much as step out of the proverbial 'polite' line just a little bit, they have no qualms with being rude and fucking hysterical to them in return. And with hilarious I mean disgusting. I mean, E.L.F., I don't want to say I understand you, but I do understand the driving force behind your ways. And yes, it is OK to want the best for the group you're so emotionally invested in. It seriously is.
But the minute one bright E.L.F. thought that the way to get attention was to shout "Only 13" during Henry's solos, the minute another bright E.L.F. thought that going out of their way to cut Henry and Zhoumi out of their own goddamn MV was like the most special thing ever, the minute the brightest E.L.F. thought that it was a good idea to boycott Super Junior M, that they bought stock in the company for chrissakes, is the minute E.L.F. stopped being passionate about their idols and started being batshit.
And the minute one E.L.F. shouted "Take him down!" at Henry, high up on his crane, the fucking minute he actually fucking heard it was the minute E.L.F. became to me, personally, obsolete. I don't want any part in it.
Not that there wasn't a fuckton of bad things being said and done before this, mind you. I mean, I can forgive the whole banner incident, the stupid ONLY5 campaign that circulated, the nauseating crap that's been spewed about them on forums, but the stuff that gets under my skin is the stuff that directly affects the people it is (supposedly not) aimed at. (WHO BUYS THAT NOISE? PLEASE TO BE FUCKING IT SIDEWAYS.)
The fact that Zhoumi cried on national television because of a 'simple question' (again, fuck that noise, it was a supremely awkward question that I wish didn't get past the fucking editing-room), the fact that Henry had to shrug and helplessly answer with "I don't know" to another 'simple question', the fact that even now Zhoumi isn't comfortable including himself in Super Junior (the SORRY, SORRY dance in the Improving Everyday 天天向上 show, as much as I loved Henry joining in unself-consciously, having fun, I hated that they made them do that, because Mimi clearly wasn't comfortable, and yeah, that was just a bad choice on the part of the show), the fact that you can actually fucking see Henry not enjoying himself during his performances in Don't Don (and Henry not enjoying himself playing his violin is like the sun and the moon being made out of fucking smelly cheese), the fact that they have destroyed two amazing people's self-confidence when they actually needed support the most make me think that E.L.F. is just another acronym for douchebag.
And yeah, what infuriates me is that E.L.F. are currently patting themselves on the back for being so fucking tolerating, singing along with SUPER GIRL like it makes up for all the shitty things they've done to Henry and Zhoumi, them deigning to not take down or otherwise cover up two little banners that get shoved to the side like we should appplaud them for it, I'm sorry, whatever the hell you're selling, I'm not buying it.
They'll gather their own fans and garner their own cheers and get all the love they deserve and more, and I sincerely believe it won't be because of E.L.F. So please get screwed by the horses you rode in on. ♥
With everlasting GET THE HELL OUTTA MY BACKYARD,
me.
