PEANUT BUTTER CUP COOKIES.
Come on, it combines peanut butter and cookies. Instant win.

Ingredients

* 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1/2 cup butter, softened
* 1/2 cup white sugar
* 1/2 cup peanut butter
* 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
* 1 egg, beaten
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 2 tablespoons milk
* 40 miniature chocolate covered peanut butter cups, unwrapped

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
2. Sift together the flour, salt and baking soda; set aside.
3. Cream together the butter, sugar, peanut butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Beat in the egg, vanilla and milk. Add the flour mixture; mix well.
4. Shape into 40 balls and place each into an ungreased mini muffin pan.
5. Bake at 375 degrees for about 8 minutes. Remove from oven and immediately press a mini peanut butter cup into each ball. Cool and carefully remove from pan.

So the Yuletide just launched. Lots of great stories, but I think the rec-the-fuck-out-of-this for me this year would have to be Apocalypse How?, a Dinosaur Comics fic of totally awesome. It's funny and retains all the nonsensical qualities that we love about our favorite navel-gazing dinosaurs (and demons). A definite "run, don't walk" rec for me.

Instead of installing new and confusing search-functions they should start developing the internet-punch button. They'd certainly get alotta mileage outta that one./rant

Haven't read any non-fiction lately, at least not in paperback format. But I am planning on buying A Lifetime of Secrets, a PostSecret book, primarily because of this:

When I give PostSecret presentations at college campuses, my hope is that people I have never met will be inspired to change their lives through the secrets and stories being shared. Not long ago, at one of my talks, it was my life that was changed, and the secret that inspired me came from a stranger in the front row.

I began my presentation by handing out blank postcards to everyone in the auditorium. I invited each person to anonymously write down a secret on a card and then pass it on. For the next hour, the postcards circulated and were read silently multiple times. At the end of my talk, I asked if anyone would like to stand and read the secret they were holding at that moment. A man in the front row stood up and haltingly read:

I wish I could apologize to my younger brother for the way I treated him growing up.

He sat down and exchanged a long look with the young man next to him. After more volunteers read aloud some of the other secrets that had been passed around, I collected all the cards. The man in the front row handed me the postcard he had read from, and the two men walked out together.

His postcard was blank.

I have witnessed many times how the courage of sharing a secret can be contagious. When I realized that the man had been pretending to read someone else’s secret and that the person he had left with was likely his brother, I was inspired.

Growing up, I was not an ideal older brother. As an adult, I have wished for an opportunity to apologize for some of my actions but did not want to open old wounds. I have not shared this secret with my brother . . . until now.

From Me To You: a story in emails is an epistolary Star Wars shortfic that is nicely in keeping with the light-hearted tone I'm shooting for here. It's basically a rewrite starting from ESB and running through ROTJ, and it's funny and heart-breaking. That ending still guts me everytime.

01. song of the day

The meme actually stated that it needed to be your favorite song, which is just ridic. I mean, who has an absolute favorite song above everything else? That's like. Unpossible. So I changed it to the song of the day (yes, screw the rules, I have spare change). And naturellement, the song of the day is none other than Henry's Taiwan solo!

A little about my choice, because I do so love TL;DRing about my favorite guy on the planet! I imagine him picking out a solo went kinda like, "Huh, I want to sing Silence, but you can't sing Silence without adding in some Chopin, and the fans will probably expect some violin, but, no, wait, this could totally work," and then he went and gave us a one-man show of awesome. The only thing missing would be for Henry to have stood up at the end and danced a jig to Michael Jackson. No. Really.

I gotta say that out of all the solos, I was most impressed by Henry's. (And this isn't even my bias speaking.) I mean, the other guys, comparatively, get to sing alot in M itself, while Henry keeps getting shafted into singing the ridiculous bit-parts (his line in Blue Tomorrow still makes me go, "Man, what is he even there for?" A: TO LOOK ADORABLE IN HIS BONNET DUH) so getting to hear him again, singing a song he obviously loves to death (I loved his version of Betrayal, seriously, and I still miss his performances of Julia, you don't even know!) was like, omgwtf. And even if he hasn't had a lot of time or opportunity to work on his vocals, I think Henry's improved quite a bit. His timber is also incredibly well-suited to Jay Chou's, too, which you know, ♥.

There's some screaming during the beginning and the end, but it doesn't exactly reach ear-shattering levels, mercy. So yeah. In conclusion: This solo is just all the ♥ in the world.


02. a movie

Again, with the favorite thing, again, I'm changing it. There's lots of movies that I adore (i.e. Star Wars, Nightmare Before Christmas, almost anything Edward Norton) so actually singling out one is. No.

But for the purposes of the meme I'm gonna go with Disney's The Little Mermaid. Originally, this movie was like the favorite Disney movie of ruinedpaperclip, with my poison being a toss-up between The Lion King and Aladdin (what can I say, I totally wanted to be either Simba or Aladdin when I grew up!) but rediscovering the magic made me realize that, oh boy, nothing gets my goat quite like The Little Mermaid.

And yeah, my OTP so is Ariel/Eric! With Sebastian/King Triton a close second. *shot*


03. a tv program

Medium. Medium. Medium.

There's no words on the planet to encapsulate my love for this show. And although I think it's slowly tipping into shark-jumping territory, this is still the show that I totally, absolutely adore. And not in small part because of my amazing big, big love for the cast involved.

This show makes me flail so much, lol. Oh, Allison! Oh, Joe! ♥

There's lots of books that I think deserve a spot on my favorite shelf, but I'm gonna totally go with my favorite Star Wars EU book (no, don't run away just yet!) which is none other than Timothy Zahn's Survivor's Quest.

My thoughts on it kind of go as follows: REMEMBER THAT FANFIC WHERE LIKE LUKE LOVED MARA AND MARA LOVED LUKE AND THEY BASICALLY JUST WIN AT LIFE AND THE UNIVERSE AND THE GALAXY (AND THE NEXT TWENTY ONES TOO)? YEAH. IT IS LIKE THAT ONLY LIKE, ASKJKJALD!EPIC. AND LIKE, SHIT GETS DESTROYED. WHICH IS ALWAYS A++++.

Technically, you'll need to read Survivor's Quest and then backtrack to Outbound Flight (also by Timothy Zahn, detailing the demise of Jorus C'baoth and the like, whose main life lesson it imparted on me was most probably: DON'T LET THRAWN NEAR YOUR GIRLFRIEND. SRSLY. ARE YOU STUPID OR SOMETHING?) but being of the ilk that likes to save the best for last I totally read it chronologically, haha.

But it was actually a minor loss, because, MAN, I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FOCUS ON THE PLOT ANYWAYZ.

I can most probably go on and on about what I loved about this book, but they're all pretty shallow and embarrassing and you-know to be of much import to anyone ever. (BECAUSE ONE OF THE PLUSSES OF HAVING A JEDI FOR A HUSBAND IS THAT YOU'RE NEVER TRULY ALONE, GAIZ. ♥) So I'm just gonna bow out semi-gracefully now.
