[#0040:] owning the goddamn servers!
Nov. 18th, 2009 11:29 amJust another quick post to give a nudge to AO3, which is currently in open beta.
A big thumbs-up to the OTW crew and the contributors!
CONGRATULATIONS!
Personal thoughts on AO3 so far: I've been keeping half an eye on this project since it was first announced, being, as always, a lurker. No idea if I will ever actually use the services they provide (since my fanfiction is sadly bereft these days) but I really like the idea of it. A nice, big archive that can accomodate about every sort of fanfiction under the sun. (They have an RPF section, how awesome is that?)
As a safe haven, it's wonderful.
As an actual usable archive? Not so much. At least, not for me. I don't really like the tagging system since it kind of makes the page look clunky, and the individual sections kind of give me a headache. I also don't really like that there's no way to list all fandoms together. (And yeah, the seperate Celebrities & Real People and Music & Bands section kind of makes me go, bzuh? I'm now under the tentative understanding that popfic should go under Celebrities and bandom should go under Music, but I have no idea how the overlap would work.)
But of course, they're working on it, and I'm gonna keep on right supporting them in my lurker-ways. And who knows? Maybe some day I'll join the throng of people who are going to own the goddamn servers!
