[#0076:] i don't wanna come back down from this cloud (it's taken me all this time)
I'M SO HAPPY WITH ANALYTICAL FANDOM, YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW. ♥
I'm so glad that these questions are being asked, these things talked about, because I love the progressiveness of fandom, I love that we like to get our hands dirty, to say, "wait, this doesn't fly!" but what I've never understood is this obsessive need to erase ourselves in the process. So yeah. I'm happy that people who are much more eloquent than me are actually discussing it! THREE CHEERS FOR FANDOM.i can't believe i don't even have any icons with sexy girls in it, this is bad and i feel bad
And now for something completely different.
I am going to pre-face it by saying that I fucking love this cast. They're so fucking cute. ALSO HARRY SHUM JR. FTMFW YES. Oh, and music. ♥
Alot of people have expressed their distaste for this show, and I can totally get behind that. It has alot of problems, ranging from discrimination to stereotyping to plain bad writing that should be taken out back and shot. Multiple times. I can't remember where I read it, but I believe Ryan Murphy himself has said that he meant the show to be taken as 'a fun, fluffy escape from reality' and I'm of two minds on whether Glee delivers.
Because, fact is, it has the chance to do some amazing things. And I believe many people thought they were promised these amazing things. Instead, we get half-assed baby-drama plots about the IMPORTANT PEOPLE (meaning, the whites and the straights and, wonder above wonders, the POPULAR) and the PoC, the queer and the disabled get sidelined. Despite being part of the actual main cast. I can see why this is infuriating, because it is.
Though as a caveat to that: Kurt gets considerable attention, probably the most of the 'dispensible' cast, at that. I think it's the fact that the character was originally not even intended to be in Glee that makes the writers focus on him the most. It's like, oooh, shiny. I don't know. It's at once a good thing and a bad thing, because I wonder if they would've focused more on Tina and Mercedes and Artie if Kurt hadn't been there. I would've hoped so, but. (BUT OTOH I LOVE KURT, I DO AND I WOULD BE SAD IF HE WASN'T AROUND TO BE SASSY.)
Not having grown up in an environment or attended a school where cliques were quite this common and quite as enforced, I can't help but laugh off much of its 'we're the Glee club, we're a slug wrapped in a slug' humor. And, actually, I think that's why Mr. Schuester's comment (GAIZ, UR THE GLEE CLUB, UR ALL MINORITIES HUR HUR) had me rolling my eyes so fucking hard. Oh, Schu, you're such a dweeb.
I'm rambling. Anyway, it has the chance to do amazing things, like I said, and where I've seen others comment on how they saw the potential in the Pilot, I can't say I agree much. The part where I saw the potential, really, was the parts where they fleshed out Kurt and his relationship with his father. Because, yeah, he's a stereotype. He's gay as a tree full of monkeys and all that jazz. His father, Burt, in contrast, is the manly man stereotype. Likes football, owns a garage, could most probably belch the national anthem. And the kicker being, he was cool with his kid being gay.
And Kurt in return? He loves his dad and helps him in the garage without any complaints whatsoever. It's the first time I saw them starting to break down stereotypes, and I was happy. Because this is what Glee could do.
That's why I think Glee getting handed awards left and right is such a big warning and worrying sign. I hope that Murphy and the rest of the crew don't get their heads stuck up their asses, keep listening to fan-feedback (and not just about the relationship-drama, yeah?) and working to give the other characters what they deserve. Which is backstory, personality and an existence beyond PoC-in-the-background-to-show-how-progressive-we-are.
With all that said, the fat-ass spoiler about Kurtand the spoiler being in the football team? (SUBTLE LIKE A TRAIN LOL.) I'm kind of ready to start shipping that shit hard-core and am so glad he's allowed to get over Finn, who was clearly the safe option so they never actually had to show any actual gay content.
All-in-all, I'm waiting on April, because this show is a trainwreck. A cute trainwreck belting popular tunes from the last decade. Oh, show.
OH ALSO. BECAUSE I AM INCORRIGIBLE HERE'S SOME SUPER JUNIOR M SPAZZ.
Their Beijing stop was only one day, which doesn't surprise me at all. Donghae was pretty much all over the place during Super Girl which I thought was pretty hilarious. He's such a fumbler, lol. ♥
AND OMG I LMFAOD IRL DURING DON'T DON WHEN EUNHYUK CAUGHT SUNGMIN IN THE HEAD WITH HIS FIST. HIS FIST OMG. It was both sad for Sungmin and the most hilarious thing ever. I didn't even pay attention to Henry, it was so hilarious. (IN CASE YOU DON'T KNOW ME, THIS IS LIKE A BIG DEAL.) Another thing I didn't pay attention to? The chanting (was there chanting IDEK). So thanks for being a screw-up, Eunhyuk.
I've been trying to get confirmation on whether Eeteuk said anything about Hangeng during the curtain-call (AND OMG, HOW MUCH DO I LOVE SIWON? HOW MUCH? THERE ARE NO WORDS) but I can't make out anything except Heechul's hilarious I SAY, U SAY game. (LOLOLOLOL, SIWON. HEN AND RY. ILU.)
Because lately I apparently can't just focus on the positive, word of mouth is that during Blue Tomorrow they chanted for Hangeng during all Zhoumi and Henry's parts. WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN. IT DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY.
IF HANGENG IS SERIOUSLY ASKING FOR A TERMINATION DON'T WHINE TO SUPER JUNIOR M ABOUT IT, MMKAY? AND SRSLY, DON'T MAKE IT ABOUT HENRY AND ZHOUMI. It was his choice. Not theirs. So stfu and gtfo.
/mops up
In other news, I watched Resident Evil yesterday. It was fun in that horror way where everybody needs to die and strangely hot. I want more Rain and Alice/Rain AU because damn. I'm kind of pondering seeing Avatar just for Michelle Rodriguez. I feel slightly pathetic.
